36th ICAR Session and Interbull Meeting 16-20 June, 2008 Niagara Falls, New York, USA 2008 ICAR guide for authors of manuscripts Visit the 2008 ICAR Website The deadline for submitting papers is 15 May 2008. - Submit manuscripts in digital format via the online submission site. Manuscripts will not be accepted via e-mail. Manuscripts will not be edited prior to publication, so proof your work.
- Suggested paper length is 4 pages. Maximum paper length is 8 pages.
- Word processing software: Submit manuscripts in MS Word.
- Do not define specific formatting styles for the title and headings of the manuscript. Also, turn off MS Word’s autoformat features.
- File name: Use your last name when you save your manuscript file (for example: Jones.doc).
- Paper size: 21.6 cm x 28 cm (8.5 inches x 11 inches). For authors outside of the United States, go into the page settings of your software to make this adjustment (if necessary).
- Use 12 point font, Times New Roman, single spacing and 2.5 cm (1 inch) for all margins.
- The title should be justified left, in bold Times New Roman, 14 point font.
- The author’s name should be justified left, two lines below (one blank line) the title. Place the author’s affiliation on the next line. Put the city, state and country on the third line. Do not include street address, postal code or e-mail address. Type names, institutions, city, state and country in upper and lower case letters. Use 12 point Times New Roman font.
- Text should begin three lines (two blank lines) below the author’s city, state and country. Use full justification.
- Single space text within a paragraph, with a double space (one blank line) between each paragraph. Do not indent the first line of a paragraph.
- Use sections to a maximum of three levels (including chapter level). Do not number sections.

The abstract should be clear and not contain more than 300 words. - Avoid large tables. The book size will be 21.6 cm x 28 cm (8.5 inches x 11 inches). Tables must fit this size (with 2.5 cm/1 inch margins on all sides).
- Number tables in Arabic numbers according to their sequence in the text. The text should include reference to all tables.
- Create tables with Tabs. Avoid using MS Word table function, spaces or any other ways.
- Tables should be clear without reading the text.
- Column headings should be brief and clear.
- Do not use vertical lines to separate columns.
- Any necessary explanations essential for understanding the table should be given as a footnote at the bottom of the table.
- All illustrations should be black and white.
- If photographs are necessary, submit digital photographs with good contrast and intensity.
- Number illustrations in Arabic numbers according to their sequence in the text. The text should include reference to all illustrations.
- Each illustration should have a title. Type this title in the text where the illustration should be placed.
- The resolution of line drawings should be at least 900 dpi and for pictures and photos at least 300 dpi.
- Formulae should be typewritten, if possible.
- Subscripts and superscripts should be clear.
- Give the meaning of all symbols immediately after the equation in which they are first used.
- Number equations in Arabic numbers serially at the right-hand side in parentheses.
- All publications cited in the text should be presented in an alphabetical list of references at the end of the manuscript (no numbering).
- In the text, refer to the author’s name (without initials) and year of publication.
- If reference is made to a publication written by more than two authors, the name of the first author should be followed by “et al.” In the list of references, mention all authors.
- References cited together in the text should be arranged chronologically. Arrange the list of references alphabetically by authors’ names, and chronologically per author.
- Use the following system for arranging your references:
- For periodicals:

- Work accepted for publication, but not yet published, should be referred to as “in press.”
- References concerning unpublished data and “personal communications” should not be cited in the reference list, but may be mentioned in the text.
- Avoid using footnotes. If absolutely necessary, number footnotes in the text, indicated by superscript numbers.
- When you are submitting your manuscript, you will be asked to select a topic from a pull down list of choices, please choose a topic that best suites your manuscript.
